The organization
The New York Unity Project is a Brooklyn think tank founded by Wendell Sweet and run by high school students. We research policy, write bills, and publish opinion essays.
We focus on artificial intelligence, education, and economic policy. These decisions will affect our lives, so we want a say in them.
What we do

Why students
It’s hard to get involved in politics as a teenager. Internships and organizations often want experience, but getting that experience before college is difficult. We started the New York Unity Project to give students a place to research and write about policy.
How we operate
Our legislative team writes bills and works through the ideas behind them. Researchers read studies and analyze data. Opinion writers focus more on broad questions and philosophical arguments; our other work relies more on empirical research. Our communications group handles outreach and events.
We credit teams rather than individual authors. We want the focus to be on the work, not on building anyone’s résumé.
We don’t post on social media or make short-form content. We take the time to explain our arguments in full.
We're looking for high school students willing to put real time into research and writing.
